Biography
Sigfrido Oliva was born in Messina in 1942. As a young man, being very fond of Van Gogh’s drawings and paintings, he decided to set a path in the arts. At the age of sixteen he attended evening courses at the local school of Arts and Crafts, where the only exercise was copying the works of ancient artists. In 1961 he moved to Rome, participating in many collective exhibitions. In 1966 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Sigfrido Oliva’s first solo exhibition in Rome was held in 1969, and since then he has exhibited his work in many Italian and foreign towns, with much success. Many are the critics who have analysed his work, including Elio Mercuri, Carlo Levi, Domenico Purificato, Mino Maccari, Maurizio Fagiolo Dell’Arco, Alfonso Gatto, Enzo Siciliano, Luigi Tallarico, Enzo Bilardello, Raffaele De Grada, Costanzo Costantini, Claudio Strinati and Giuseppe Di Stefano. Mr. Oliva currently works and lives in Rome with his family.
